Dear AAA Parents,
The season is quickly approaching and Registration is still open. Please let your friends know they need to sign up their player asap so they don't miss out on the spring season. Register Here.
Evals: Evaluations are scheduled for January 26 for AAA. The current forecast looks like it will be cold. Make sure your player is appropriately dressed. It is incredibly important for your player to be at evaluations or the make-up evening on January 29. If we get rained out on January 26 then we will push everything to the following Saturday, February 2 with a make-up day the following Tuesday, February 5. We do everything we can to balance teams but also with the split between National League and American League we need as much information as possible on each player to make sure they are in the appropriate league.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time at the registration table which will be set up on the 1st base side of Field 4 (across from playground). Each player has a number that will be put on painter's tape on their front and back. It's also helpful if they wear a jersey that has their name on the back. Go ahead and have your player warmed up (especially their arms) before their scheduled time. This includes hitting - they'll have some practice swings on deck but that's it. EXPECT TO BE THERE THE FULL 90 MINUTES. We will break the players into 3 groups where they will be evaluated hitting, pitching, running, fielding, throwing and catching. All players will remain at each individual station until all players in their group have finished and then they will rotate together AS A GROUP.
Times are as follows for last names that begin with:
A - E 10:00am - 11:30am
F - K 11:30am - 1:00pm
L - R 1:30pm - 3:00pm
S - Z 3:00pm - 4:30pm
· If you absolutely cannot make it to your assigned time you may come to one of the other sessions but YOU MUST EMAIL ME as soon as possible to let me know.
AAA makeup evaluations are Monday, January 28, at 6:15.
Bats: Beginning January 1, 2018, USA Baseball implemented a new method for measuring bat performance in the testing of youth baseball bats. The "USA Bat Standard" creates wood-like performance in youth baseball bats. The new bat rules apply to DHYS and therefore the USSSA 1.15 BPF bats are no longer allowed. Wooden bats and bats with the USA Bat stamp are the only bats that will be allowed during evaluations and game play. USA Baseball Bat Stamp
Other Equipment: DHYS provides players with a hat, belt, socks and a jersey. Pants, gloves and cleats are not provided. Players also need to have their own helmet (WITH A FACEMASK) and bat as well (USA Bat Stamp required). Since we have a new bat standard, it is likely that some players will not have their own approved bat. Players may need to borrow their teammates bats if they cannot provide their own approved bat. Dick’s Sporting Goods (there will be a DHYS day in the near future) and Play It Again Sports are good places to look for bats (make sure it has the USA baseball stamp), helmets and gloves if needed. There is no required pant color, although most parents choose to go with grey, as this is the easiest color to keep clean.
Efforts to be Environmentally Conscious (uniforms): In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, and to help declutter your house, DHYS will be recycling new and like new uniform pieces. Items that don’t meet these standards will also be collected and donated. Specifically we are looking for those extra belts and unused socks that are sitting around in your drawers or closets. We will be collecting these items at our evaluations. In addition to collecting these items, we ask that when your player picks up their uniform at the beginning of the season, if you do not have a need for new socks/belts, please return them to your players coach, so that we can redistribute them to future teams. We understand that items can get pretty worn, or you may lose a sock to the laundry-monster, so if you need the items, please take them. But if you are like many of the DHYS parents who have been around the league, you probably have triplicates of those black belt and socks just lying around.
Timing/Schedule (see below for the spring 2018 schedule):
Player drafts will take place as soon as possible after the evaluations, with practices starting no later than the week of February 11. After your player is drafted, you will receive a welcome email from your coach within 48 hours after the draft. Please don't email us unless you haven't heard anything by February 9.
Spring Ball consists of 2 or 3 activities per week: Prior to the first grapefruit game, both activities will be practices - one during the week and another on Sunday. Once Grapefruit (pre-season) games begin on March 3, activities will consist of 1 practice during the week, a game on Saturday and 1 practice on Sunday. Once the regular season games start you will have a weekday game (Monday-Thursday), a Saturday game and a Sunday practice.
Let us know if you have any questions and looking forward to a great Spring season!
