11U Red Devils Torch competition at All Star 12U State Tournament

The 11U Red Devils offense powered their way to win the championship at the All-Star 12U State Tournament on July 9th in Canton, Ga.  The Devils flexed their muscle as they pounded in 56 runs over the weekend.  The Red Devils’ dominate pitching allowed only 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 21 for the tournament.  The Devils pitching staff threw two no-hitters and the defense was stout as usual committing only 2 errors. Go Devils!

13U BlueClaws Capture Georgia Dizzy Dean State Championship!

BlueClaws capture Dizzy Dean State of Georgia 13U Championship by decisively dispatching 4 opponents, scoring 42 runs and only allowing 11.  Playing against a field of teams from northern and southern Georgia, the 'Claws raced through the "winner's bracket" in the double elimination tournament.  In the Championship game, the 'Claws allowed only one hit and beat tournament host, Sharon Springs Blue, by a score of 10 - 0. In the fifth inning, the 'Claws scored their final and State title clinching run on a line drive hit laced up the middle allowing the 'Claws runner on 2nd base to streak toward home and cross the plate for the 10th and final run of the game. The game also featured numerous stellar defensive plays by infielders diving for ground balls and outfielders leaping to catch line drives and record double-play outs.  During the course of the State tournament, the 'Claws played with focus and a resilience that enabled them to pull together and reach a new, higher level of play for the team.

In the first tournament game against Sharon Springs Blue, the 'Claws erupted late in the game for 9 runs to win 13 - 2 while giving up only 1 hit.  In the second game against a talented Hobgood Heat team, the 'Claws prevailed 8 - 3 in a contest that featured strong pitching and defense.  The 'Claws even managed to conduct a perfectly executed "pickle" play by tagging an opposing base runner out much to the glee of the coaches.  In the third game with a seat in the Championship game on the line, the 'Claws faced a newly resurgent Sharon Springs Silver team and prevailed in a very tense game that saw the 'Claws pull ahead late to win 11 - 6.  To the 'Claws advantage, our hurlers were strategically rotated to meet the newly imposed Dizzy Dean tight pitch count limitations as they responded by throwing strikes and letting the defense shine in each game.

10U Red Devils slog through losers bracket to finish 3rd at Dizzy Dean State Invitational

The 10U Red Devils travelled the hard road to a 3rd place finish in the Dizzy Dean State Invitational.  Despite going 4-2 and outscoring thier opponents 62-37, fighting through the losers bracket with a 9 man roster and strict pitch counts finally took its toll in the semi-finals.  The Devils fought hard throughout the rain-soaked tournament and finished their summer season with a strong showing.  After a tough 9U season that netted only two wins in 2016, this group rallied to an outstanding 18-7-1 2017 10U summer season that included two gold-bracket championships.

13U BlueClaws claim runner-up in Greater Atlanta Open

13U BlueClaws claim the runner up spot in the "Greater Atlanta Open".  In pool play the 'Claws defeated both versions of the Sharon Springs teams: "Silver" 4 - 0 and  "Blue" 7 - 3.  The team relied upon tight defense and strong pitching to claim both victories.  In bracket play, the 'Claws again faced the Sharon Springs Silver squad and reaffirmed their strong play with a 16 - 2 shellacking that featured 15 hits from the team.  On a cool nite in the final game, the "Claws fell just short against Acworth 7 - 6 in a game where the 'Claws valiantly came back from a 6 - 0 deficit to make a nice accounting of themselves.  As the sun gave way to the night, the guys picked up resolve and chipped away at the lead and settled for a well played tourney and "groovy" green hardware.

11U Red Devils capture District 4 Championship!

The 11U Red Devils, sporting their Stars and Stripes themed uniforms, played an outstanding stretch of baseball this week out at Sharon Springs park in Cumming, Ga in the Dizzy Dean District 4 Tournament.  The Red Devils went 5-0 burning up everything in their path.  The Devils pitching staff was strong and determined.  The defense was outstanding, playing two error free games including the championship game.  The Devils offense was white hot as they lit up the scoreboard all week.  The three facets of the game came together as the Devils outscored their opponents 60-19 over the 5 game stretch.  Great job Devils!

7U Red Devils take 4th in Gold Bracket

The 7U Red Devil team has really come on late in the season.  Last week they posted a 2-1-1 record and finished 4th in the Gold Bracket of the Summer Slam Tournament up in Cumming.  An inside the park homerun by Mac Vaysman and some stellar defense at third by Lee Shanlever helped contribute in the success of the team.  This week the team plays back in Cumming for their final tournament of the season in the Bull Dog Bash.

Battle of Atlanta at Medlock Park

10U Red Devils win Clash at the Battlefield!

The 10U Red Devils were crowned champions this weekend in Kennesaw after going undefeated in four games while outscoring their opponents 46-11.  A stellar defense that committed only one error all weekend was led by Joey David and Alec Waller up the middle.  On the mound, John Benjamson carried the biggest load, tossing four shutout innings on Sunday.  The offense was led by Sam Corso and Gus Berzsenyi with 6 and 5 hits each, respectively.  Great job, Devils!

8U Blue Devils stun Buckhead teams with come-from-behind wins to secure first tournament title

The DHYS 8U Blue Devils played their first tournament at the Kennesaw Clash at the Battlefield this weekend and claimed the Silver bracket championship. The team, coached by Michael Albino and John Zern, was assembled late and had only a handful of practices under their belts before this weekend’s tournament. But, they learned quickly on the field and improved exponentially over the course of three games on Saturday. By the time they met the Buckhead Bulldogs – who had defeated them 17-2 earlier – for bracket play, the Blue Devils bats had heated up and they were ready for the rematch.

The Bulldogs played well and the Blue Devils got into an early hole, down 10–2 after 2 innings. But, they were able to work themselves out of it by playing solid defense and holding the Bulldogs to four runs in the next four innings. The Blue Devils offense chipped away steadily and, when time ran out at the end of the fifth, the game was tied 14–14. The Blue Devils bats were hot by the sixth and they scored six runs to seal the win 20–15. The win sent them to the championship game against the Buckhead Bombers, who had beat the Mount Paran Spartans in their first game of the elimination round 16–1.

Buckhead dominated the Blue Devils in the first inning with seven runs, but the Blue Devils locked in their defense and battled back, holding the Bombers to just one run over the next four innings. At the end of the fifth inning, the Blue Devils lead 11–8. The Blue Devils bats again fired up in the sixth, where they scored five runs to put the game out of reach for the Bombers at 16-8. A clutch triple by Azel in the fifth, followed by the game winning single by Evan secured the championship game for the team. Together, the team collected 52 hits over two games, with multiple hits for Sam, Ashima, Evan, Sullivan, Edison, Luke, Jude, Everett, and Jacob.

The Blue Devils are off to a thrilling start to the summer season and head into next weekend’s Battle of Atlanta at Medlock/Rehoboth ready for action!

13U BlueClaws capture Runner-Up at Clash at the Battlefield

On the final day, the 'Claws clobbered 26 hits in two contests.  They relied upon stellar pitching and a barrage of hits to buck the Brookwood Broncos 15 - 4. The 'Claws advanced to the championship game, yet a threatening sky stopped the team from outlasting their opponent. During the rain shortened game, the 'Claws tallied 12 runs but surrendered 15 to the Hobgood Heat.  For their efforts, the 'Claws garnered another ring and a bronze Runner Up medal.

13U BlueClaws win Hobgood Memorial Warm-Up!

The 13U BlueClaws claimed their 3rd consecutive Hobgood Memorial Day Warm-Up Tournament Championship!  The BlueClaws were an insurmountable swell crushing their opponents on the last day of the tournament.  In the first contest, the 'Claws jumped out to a quick lead and banged out 19 hits - coupled with solid pitching - to prevail 13 - 5 over the Sharon Springs Silver Spartans.  In the final battle of the day, the 'Claws relentlessly pounded out 13 more hits and greeted their tournament host, the Hobgood Heat, with a 16 - 0 clubbing.  The 'Claws were declared tournament winners based on their only allowing 13 runs, yet bringing themselves home 36 times over the course of the tournament.  For their efforts, each team member received a jewel ladened Championship ring - perfect for a 13 year old!
